With over 45 years of experience in ride refurbishment and maintenance, Garmendale Engineering Ltd has proudly supported a wide range of theme parks across the UK and around the globe. Known for tackling complex engineering challenges with reliability and precision, our reputation has grown steadily through word of mouth over the decades. While we also design and build ride systems from the ground up, today’s blog focuses on a few standout projects we’ve had the privilege of bringing back to life. Halloween may still be a little way off, but we’ve got a spine-tingling update that’s sure to thrill!
American Adventure is a theme park very close to our hearts playing a pivotal role in Garmendale’s growth in the world of theme park engineering. One of our final projects for American Adventure following its closure, Garmendale aided in the relocation, rebuilding, installation, commissioning, and testing of their iconic Double Looper coaster in its new home in Poland. Before relocation to Legendia Śląskie Wesołe Miasteczko, Garmendale refurbished and transformed the coaster into the ‘Devil’s Looper’ before transportation to its new home.
Morgawr at Crealy Theme Park Cornwall is a steel dragon kiddie coaster entertaining families for over 15 years. However, this isn’t the whole story and Garmendale was a big part of this journey. Back in 1984 Morgawr was under a very different name and theming, this Soquet coaster from France was known as the ‘Knightmare’ and resided in the sadly defunct Camelot Theme Park in Lancashire. The ‘Knightmare’ went through several retheming’s taking on names like ‘The Beast’ and ‘Space Mountain’ before landing on its penultimate retheme, ‘Venom’. Seen below the ride system in 2007 closed for good after being moved to Wales for 2 final years of operation.
The story has a happy ending if you hadn’t guessed Crealy Theme Park in Cornwall purchased the ride system a few years later. Finding ‘Venom’ in a state of disrepair, Garmendale was called in for a full refurbishment of the ride and update meeting the modern day health and safety standards. As well as relocating the coaster from Wales to Cornwall in the South of England Garmendale set about transforming 4 cars into one train, fitting lap bars, and manufacturing a new ride control. Our team carried out the installation, testing, and commission all whilst meeting ADIPS certification for the coaster train and control system. I nearly forgot to mention our favourite part of this project, the full retheming of the train, turning the ride vehicle into Morgawr the magical blue dragon. Since 2010 this ride system has remained a family favourite running good as new.
Garmendale have refurbished projects and ride systems across the globe. Whether its breathing new life into a coaster down on its performance or the complete overhaul of a previously beloved ride system, Garmendale would love to help out and support your next maintenance or refurbishment project.
