Jurassic Park is one of cinema’s most successful franchises and beloved across film and theme parks. Offering audiences the shocks and thrills of the greatest creatures to roam the earth whether it’s in the multiplex or hurtling around a track at 70mph. Garmendale Engineering Limited have had the immense pleasure of being involved in multiple projects of the Jurassic variety. We have mentioned our love and adoration of Jurassic Park before but with another film opening worldwide this week it seemed like the perfect time to celebrate our very unique relationship with Jurassic Park once more.

Unfortunately we can’t prove that our gates are dinosaur proof, but with RG-11 gating systems on 3 Jurassic Park/World projects, we can promise you no dinosaur has ever escaped from those attractions. The RG-11’s flexible design offers a unique passenger management system, ensuring efficiency, safety, reliability, and a steady through-put. Across Orlando, Hollywood, and Universal Japan our gates keep thousands of families safe every year. Back in 2019 Universal Studios closed down Jurassic Park: The Ride to make way for an updated and more thrilling remodel of this crowd-pleasing attraction. To coincide with the success of the revamped Jurassic World films the ride received a similar makeover, including brand new dinosaurs and a brand new gating system. Garmendale were more than happy to oblige and recently a similar remodel has been undertaken at Universal Studios Japan and with it another brand new RG-11 Gating System.

Garmendale engineering loves a challenge, so when Universal Orlando approached us requesting a never-before-seen stainless steel gating system with a glass-infill. Which our designers were more than happy to make happen. An ambitious design with a rigorous and brutal testing process, would expect any less for a gating system that had to be worthy of the Velocicoaster. One of the world’s finest rollercoasters offers incredible views of the park and is now equipped with a stunning set of gates if we do say so ourselves.

Garmendale’s Jurassic journey doesn’t stop there as a few years ago our engineering came much closer to the dinosaurs. We designed and manufactured a bespoke track system for a world leading animatronics manufacturer. Designed to be completely transportable to linearly, and radially transverse a dynamic motion attraction standing 4m tall with a mass of 2 tons for live audiences around the world. Capable of travelling at 1.1m per second and designed to run 16 hours a day, 365 days of the year. Dual redundancy safety systems ensure the highest level of safety. Each segment of track was designed and manufactured to be racked and stacked in a shipping container, enabling our track to travel anywhere in the world. You may be wondering ‘What 2-ton creature does the track support?’ Only the king of the dinosaurs as you can see below. This incredible attraction now travels the world as part of the Jurassic World exhibit.

As you can tell, “life finds a way”, and so do our engineers, revelling in any challenge, so brave they’d make velociraptors run for cover. Our continued relationship with Universal and the world of Jurassic Park is as humbling as it is exciting. Garmendale Engineering is not 65 million years in the making but we are 40 years, three generations, and counting here’s to more fun and smiling faces. Who knows what could come stomping around the corner on our next project, we will be sure to keep you updated.
